Cancel The Orphan Mindset

Pastor Aaron Lage Season 5 Episode 44

It's helpful for us Christians to regularly examine the true nature of obedience in our relationship with God. Drawing from John 14:15, where Jesus declares 'If you love me, you will obey what I command,' we're challenged to move beyond our cultural resistance to the word 'command' and recognize that genuine love naturally produces obedience. The sermon unpacks two essential layers of obedience: first, to God's written Word, and second, to His daily promptings through the Holy Spirit. We're no longer operating under Old Testament legalism, but rather living in covenant relationship—much like a marriage where love compels us to serve one another without resentment. We're reminded that Jesus promised us the Holy Spirit as our Counselor, our divine legal aid who dwells within us, not just with us. This isn't about perfection; it's about the evidence of love in our lives. When we mess up, the covenant isn't broken—but if there's never any fruit, we must honestly ask whether the love we profess is truly there. The message challenges us to stop living like orphans, wallowing in self-disqualification, and instead embrace our adoption into God's family where we have full access to the Father through Jesus Christ.
